Dental Implants Nyc
One of the services here at Cosmetic Dentist NYC is dental implants. Your teeth are supposed to be good for your entire life, but many times they are not. Bad teeth can affect the way you look and feel. They can cause severe health conditions. When this happens, the teeth must be extracted, and either dentures or dental implants be put in. We have cosmetic dentists here in NYC that can help with this. They have the skills and will help restore your smile.
What Are Dental Implants
To make a decision between dentures and dental implants, both need to be understood. Dental implants can be used to replace the natural teeth, whether it is one single tooth or an entire mouth full of teeth. Implants are fixtures that are placed in the bone and are an anchor for the teeth. This means that the implant fuses with the bones in your mouth. They can be put in the mouth permanently or where the denture snaps onto the implant. These don’t slip easily but can still be taken in and out.
Dentures are not permanent and are attached to the neighboring teeth. This would mean that if the bridge fails, the neighboring teeth are compromised and can be lost as well. Also, if the adjacent teeth get bad, the bridge may slip more and not allow the ease of chewing and talking it once did.
With the dental implants, the neighboring teeth are not touched, allowing them to remain more stable than with dentures. The success rate of having a dental implant is much higher than the success rate of dentures. When the denture is attached to the implant, they are more stable and don’t move or shift during talking, eating, laughing or chewing. They are more comfortable, and the bone level is kept intact with implants. Dentures do not have room for the plate to hold them in place on the bottom, so the bottom denture tends to slip more than the top one. This is not the case with implants since they are fused with the bone.
Dental Implants Procedure
Here at Cosmetic Dental NYC, our dentists will take steps to be sure there is no discomfort during the procedure. The first thing the dentist will do is to give you anesthesia and make sure that the area he is working on is numb and that you are completely comfortable the entire time. Some patients prefer to be sedated, and the dentist can do that too. It is not necessary though. Next, the doctor will extract the teeth if need be and begin to examine the bone. If there is enough bone for the implant, then it can be placed right then if there is not enough bone, the doctor will have to perform a bone graft to build it up. Once the bone is thick enough to hold the implant, then it will be placed.
It will take 4-6 months for the implant to integrate with the bone so during this time the doctor will place a temporary restoration piece in. This will allow time for healing. Once the area has healed properly, a permanent crown, bridge or denture will replace the temporary piece. The doctor will make this durable replacement the same color as your natural teeth and gums.Dental Implants Nyc
